Your favourite game Angry Bird’s maker Rovio reported its annual revenue for the year of 2012 and it seems to be a great year for Rovio which reported a revenue of $195 million up by around 101% compared to the $96.9 million back in 2011. The main source of revenue for Rovio still remains paid games, virtual goods, advertising and merchandise as reported by TheNextWeb, the merchandising revenue alone tripled in the last one year says Rovio. The company’s net profit increased by 57% to record a profit of $71 million up from $45.4 million in 2011.

Rovio had quite a lot of titles released in the year 2012 with Games like Angry Birds Space, Amazing Alex, Bad Piggies and Angry Birds Star Wars that accelerated the total number of Rovio game downloads to more than 1 billion in May 2012. Today, Rovio claims that number has surpassed the 1.7 billion mark and with an active user base of almost 270 million users by the end of December 2012.
Rovio seems to be keen on expanding its merchandising business as well which it predicts to be a major chunk of its revenue source in coming years. CEO Herkko Soininen said that Rovio has been doing everything possible to protect their’s as well as their partners’ interests, as they continue to invest heavily in brand protection globally.
